DANCE EVENTS & PHOTOS
Sushi Party
Sept. 26, 2008 - This was a really fun and exciting party! The color red was the theme of this party. Near the reception area, there was a table full of sushi. It was very colorful, showing off the Specialty Rolls (if you frequent Sushi restaurants you know), traditional sushi and variations of the familiar California roll laid out in a decorative "sushi boat" display. As you picked up your sushi, you were offered hot or cold sake, plum wine or pear sake - quite a treat!
The show that evening included a martial arts demonstration from the nearby Kung Fu studio, three dance exhibitions and a sumo wrestling demonstration. Although the dance exhibitions were good, the rave of the party was the spirited (or should I say comical) sumo wrestling. We had a great crowd and went overtime until 11:30pm because everyone wanted to keep dancing!

Youth Showcase 2008
August 9, 2008 - The Youth Showcase was our first studio show just for the kids. We invited dancers from all the studios in the South Bay area to perform any style of dance at this showcase. They danced ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and ballroom numbers.
The guests and performers were treated to a spaghetti and meatball dinner. Afterward, there was a photo session for all the young dancers and the following evening we gave the performers a "cast party" to thank them for a beautiful showcase. Congratulations to everyone!

Summer Showcase 2008
July 27, 2008 - the Summer Showcase went on beautifully. We had some first time performers and some seasoned veterans dancing in this show. They all danced wonderfully!
We had a great show; we saw performances in Cha-Cha, Samba, Bolero, Flamenco, Argentine Tango and more. There were 22 numbers in all, a few less than our last showcase but I guess this was good since the overall atmosphere seemed more relaxed.

Hawaiian Theme Party
The Friday Theme Parties in June 2008 were great. Thank you for attending and to those who dressed up for each theme party.
At the Hawaiian Luau Party, Veronica taught the ladies a simple, yet beautiful Luau dance and Mark ran the man through a vigorous hip-shaking tahitian dance. We had plenty of teriyaki chicken, gourmet fried rice, salad and Hawaiian rolls. We finished the card game contest and awarded the winner. Check out the photos below.

Blackpool Dance Festival 2008
May 22nd - June 8th in England, Austria, Italy.
The Blackpool Dance Festival in England is considered by many to be the most prestigious dance competition in the world. One division alone may start with upwards of 250 couples and will take 7 rounds of elimination to decide the champion. A grueling event for the competitors, a spectacular event for the audience.
This years winners are: Standard Champions - Mirko Gozzoli and Alessia Betti and Latin Champions - Michael Malitowski & Joanna Leunis.
Go to Mark's Blog for complete results and pictures of the professional competitors. (Click here to see results and pics)
Our trip started in Blackpool, England for 8 days - we saw Charles and Alexis compete, we danced at the Blackpool tower, went to Liverpool (home of the Beatles) and saw dancing with the best Latin and Standard couples in the world. We went sightseeing in Vienna for 4 days - we saw the Art History Museum, the Theatre, the Spanish Riding School, the Danube River and Tower, Stepansdom and a Concert. We then went to Rome for 4 more days - we saw the St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. It was an exciting 16 days and we plan to go again.
We had so many good pictures, we divided the photos between
England and the rest (Vienna and Rome). Click the links below

Emerald Ball Dance Championships 2008
May 1-4 , 2008 at the LAX Hilton Hotel - As usual, the Emerald Ball delivers the highest level of competition. Competitors come from all over the U.S. to enter this event and test their skills. Normally, tension is high, but this year there seemed to be a more relaxed atmosphere. Our dancers from the studio entered this event and did well overall, placing in several dances. Congratulations to everyone on a job well done.

California Open Championships 2008
February 14-17, 2008 at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. - We always enjoy attending this competition - the venue is close (Irvine, CA), the shows are great and there is a camaraderie among the dancers that give it a welcoming feel. There were beginning to advanced levels of dance competition. Several of our students went to this competition and performed quite well! Check out the online photos at this year's California Open Dance Championship.

Valentine's Day Party 2008
Almost everyone was in attendance at this party making it the biggest event of the year. Everything went on without a hitch - the dance class, the buffet dinner, the mini-showcase, raffle prizes and dancing. It was a room full of RED, from decorations on the wall to the evening wear on dancers. "Thank You" to the dancers for a job well done and to everyone who came to support the studio.

Winter Showcase 2007
December 9, 2007 at Dancer Avenue Studio. By all accounts, this was our most spectacular showcase ever. There were 41 numbers performed at this Showcase. We had lots of food & beverage for everyone and social dancing during intermissions. The music was exciting, the costumes were glittery and glamorous and the dancing was superb. We had traditional dances like Waltz and Rumba, also Jazz and Tap routines as well as group numbers performing the Musical Hair Spray and James Bond.
All the dancers, both students and professionals, did a great job - congratulations to all!

Hawaii Star Ball 2007
October 3-6, 2007 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. We always have a great time at this competition and continue to return. I haven't decided what's most alluring, the friendly dance competition, the relaxing atmosphere near the beautiful, blue water beaches or simply the Mai Tais. I will have to ponder this question for awhile. Any wary, the students did a great job - congratulations to Dave, Anne, Chris, Natalie, Charles and Alexis.
